Where Being is enough.
Caring for the women who care for the world.
WHAT WE SEE
The work is funded. The women doing it are not.
Campaigns are funded. Research and policy fights get investment. But the women carrying them are left to choose between sustaining the work and sustaining themselves.
We live in a culture where urgency is rewarded, stillness is suspect, and burnout is built into the system. When women burn out, it’s treated as a personal failure of resilience, and almost never as a system that was not designed to hold them. When we lose a woman to burnout, we lose capacity for the change itself.
The Sanctuary Experience exists so women building a more just and joyful world can rest, return to themselves, and remember that they are more than they produce. We steward two sanctuaries, one in Washington State and one in Cuernavaca, Mexico designed to hold the women who hold the world.
Rest is not an act of kindness on the side of the real work. It is a repair to the foundation itself. Rest can sound small, but it’s as strategic as policy, programming, and organizing.
We believe lasting change is possible when we invest in the women cultivating a more just and liberated future.
Not just their strategies. Not just their output.
Them.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
WHO WE HOLD
Women reshaping the world, at the point of burnout.
Our sanctuaries are open to all women doing this work, and we prioritize Black and Indigenous women.
They are remaking the systems that shape all our lives while carrying the weight of systems never built for them to thrive. They are extraordinary. They are also exhausted.
Two ways in, one way of being held.
THE EXPERIENCE
Sanctuary Fellowship
Individual · 2–4 weeks · Washington or Mexico
An immersive stay to rest and reconnect with herself while remembering her wholeness.
Sanctuary Journey
Collective · One week · Washington State
A week together, co-designed with practitioners who share our values.
“Thank you for gifting me time and space. So that I may have perspective. So that I could wander and be alive again.”
2025 FELLOW
A revolution in how we sustain social change, by resourcing the people at its heart.
We ask nothing of the women who come here except that they be. This is made possible by people who want more women held this way.
